Our Day Outside

El Fin

Surprisingly and Blessed on our last full day in Valencia we were able to go see some of the city during the daytime! We immediately jetted to the Mediterrean Sea to feel the sun on our faces and walk along the boardwalk…

The one below is of the Las Arenas Resort we got to enjoy dinner at one of the evenings after helping with one of the events that WASM had put on for its delegates.

From there we headed to the oldest part of the city to see some of the historic buildings before the sunset… We had read somewhere that there was a church in which scholars believe the ‘holy grail’ was moved too…So for purely entertainment that became our goal along with three of the others we had been working with all week at the Congress. I will have to go back and label all of the buildings below at a later date.

Above is part of the afternoon in which we attempted to find the ‘holy grail’ and decided to take a picture there ‘claiming we found it’. img_4197 img_4194 img_4185 img_4186 img_4187  img_4159 img_4162 img_4164 img_4166 img_4170 img_4176 img_4180 img_4183 img_4154 img_4155

The one thing that seemed so crazy to me about Valencia were all the Palm trees-even though it is a city on the coast I still cannot get my mind around these old old buildings with palm trees right next to them. :) img_4190

The five of us skipped the WASM closing ceremony and met up with our ‘bosses’ for a lovely evening to celebrate the end and enjoy doing nothing but sitting. :) The place we ate at “Sagardi” was sooo good-desperate for protein all of us got some sort of steak and potatoes…ending with a dessert of cheese and walnuts. :) It was fun getting to know everyone-even though they all live in Rochester I personally had never spent ‘real’ time with any of them and of course after working long/late hours we got to know each other quite well and am looking forward to seeing everyone again!

Thank you WASM crew for letting me work along side all of you! :)

Palacio de Congreso

Valencia, Spain

Cordie and I were in this beautiful city for 9 days, both working for a sleep medicine congress (conference) every single day except for the day we arrived and the day we left. :) It was much busier than I expected but after working the first 8 hour day we were ready for the 12-15 hour days to follow. It became normal for us to leave our hotel before the sun rose and after it had gone down again…making the most of being around the people we were working with and helping the attendees of the conference find their way around, filming their symposiums, recording their teachings and enjoying hearing stories of the lives they live as doctors. Below is the congress center we were in everyday and some of the sessions/exhibitors in the building.

I was ‘in charge’ of a group of hired host/hostess from the ‘Palacio de Congreso’ which is where the congress was held along with some Medical Students from the Catholic University of Valencia. They were amazing and those of us working the registration/front of the house were thankful for their ability to not only speak the languages that they know but also for all of their help! img_4080 The pictures to follow is from the Opening Ceremony which was held at there Opera House-Valencia has some amazing Architecture and this building being only one of them! There were fireworks and tapas after an opera show which was my very first time seeing one and I only wished I knew what the beautiful words meant.

Us at the end of our first really long day.

The nice thing about being able to help Cordie with filming the sessions was I learned a lot about sleep disorders… got to ask questions directly to the professionals that have spent years studying sleep and partaking in clinical studies… :)

Below are a few of the things that helped me survive the week… great coffee.. fruit and fresh croissants (yes almost everyday I had one) and of course seeing my husband at the end of each day.
