Goodbye NYC

July Home

We cannot believe how fast this month has gone! Some days feeling like we did waaaay too much for our bodies to handle and the others being able to just wander around this beautiful city. This past week I got to catch up with a good friend and her sister from Perth, WA a couple times and I am soooo incredibly grateful for those moments!

One day we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and then had a 2 hr+ catch up on life in a cafe and then the last time I got to see them we were in Washington Square Park (above pictures) which we hadn’t been to yet and absolutely loved the atmosphere as there was all kinds of funny free entertainment going on around us!

I met Kerri when I was on staff with YWAM Perth, and had the privilege of being her outreach leader to Jakarta, Indonesia, Namibia and Botswana over a 3 month period. She is one of a kind, gracious, full of life and an aspiring girl! Love her to pieces. :) And can’t wait to see her again in Australia someday.

Spending time with the aussies girls, we also FINALLY went to a restaurant in Soho founded and run by a group of Aussie ‘blokes’ and they have AMAZING food. Cordie has even gone to the point where it has been his ‘favorite’ meal here in NYC! They are known for their Australian type coffee and burgers! Our first experience I had a salad and he had pasta….it being soo good we went back today for our ‘last’ meal here in Manhattan and had a chicken burger (with my fav sweet chili sauce) and Cord got a typical Aussie burger with beets, a fried egg, pineapple and a bunch of other goodness. All with a lovely non-alcoholic Ginger Beer (with is similar to Ginger Ale just with more of a Ginger Zing).

These last few days were ‘double’ dip days as we found our fav gelato place, Mo il gelato and went there twice as well! (it only being a short walk from where we are staying it is good we didn’t discover it until now otherwise I know we would have spent too much money there) They make their gelato FRESH every morning! If you are ever in Little Italy, Manhattan it is a must go too!

Montauk Lighthouse

Montauk Point aka ‘THE END’

Saturdays Somewhere (July 13th)

This past weekend we went on a ‘day’ trip to Montauk, NY the drive out of NYC wasn’t too bad as we left before 7 am to beat the traffic! Long Island is a destination for a lot of new yorkers on the weekend as many have houses or some sort of event to attend to in The Hamptons. The drive through beautiful winerys and fresh hydrangeas were everywhere! We had a lovely brunch at a local cafe in their ‘backyard’ when we arrived into the town of Montauk, as the rain began to pour we quickly left.

This is our routine shot now of when the three of us go anywhere together! (my scarf was shielding the rain)

Our destination was the end of the island, in which there is a gorgeous lighthouse…it was very foggy that rainy that day so we got the best pictures we could!

As you can see we all had a wonderful time! Lots of fun and laughter!

Love my little sister and the time we get to spend together this summer! She is laid back and easy going but always knows how to laugh and have fun!

After our little hike around the Montauk State Park we got back in the car and headed into the little town to find some actual sand where we could hang out for the afternoon. It was a bit chilly but enjoyable to not be in the 90+ degree whether that New York has been having.

Surprise Speaker @ Hillsong NYC

Priscilla Shirer

I love love love our Sundays in NYC. Not only because the day seems longer but also because we get to choose from 6 services to go to at Hillsong NYC. The church doesn’t ‘post’ in advance what pastor is speaking when or if a guest is in town-I am assuming because it is a lot for one person to speak/be available from 10am-9pm in one day. Long story short we had the privilege of listening to Priscilla Shirer speak on patience!

She is quite powerful and enthusiastic when she preaches and her teaching through the old testament on God’s character in just a few short minutes blew me away! After the service we had lunch at 5 Napkin Burger and both had amazing tacos believe it or not! Union Square is a pretty enjoyable place to walk around to the different shops or sit on a bench in the shade-not to be controversial or anything but there was a protest going on, on behalf of Trayvone that day so the square was packed! And it was an interesting thing to observe as I personally had never seen a protest in person. (it was very calm and not violent in any way)

This is up above from one of the department stores we were in… mostly to be in the Air Condition! :)

Lowdown House Blues Festival

BB King & Co (July 10th/11th)

Blues. I thought I knew what ‘blues’ music was… yet had no idea there were so many different ‘types’ or genres within one category. Anyways, on Wednesday and Thursday night Cordie and I made the trek to the Brookfield Plaza which was formally known as the World Trade Center… a couple hours in advance to get in line for seats. Forgetting that I am not a huge fan of lines the wait was not that fun when the actual ‘seating’ of people started LOOOONG after what was communicated. I must say though, seeing BB King and his crew in person was definitely worth it!

BB King is now 87 years old… a great singing voice, talented at his guitar playing and LOVED to talk more during the show than do either of the previous two things. :) He was very humorous and the team of guys on stage with him were just as amazing! The crowd went wild when ‘the thrill is gone‘ started playing!

For the second night of the festival we went much later to avoid all the lines and in hopes of just seeing the Los Lonely Boys and to hear their infamous “Mamacita” which was fantastic!

A few highlights of being at the festival was being two rows back from a commercial that was being filmed both nights in a row (the actors/actresses had the same outfits on both nights) and watching all the crazy people trying to move seats…walk towards the stage to be told to sit back down again…over and over and over.. yes I may have paid much more attention to all the people than the actual show. (guilty) And the gorgeous view of the water, the beautifully constructed buildings around us and spectacular yachts just lounging in their place.

9/11 Memorial

In Remembrance & Prayer (July 9th)

Today we went to the 9/11 Memorial to honor the lives that were lost and to help support the efforts of building a ‘new’ place for the city of New York in that specific area.

There are two fountains (30 feet deep) in place of where the two towers stood-the names of each individual is nice and large so it is very legible. The last picture is of the new Freedom Tower (now the tallest in the United States) and I believe 4 new World Trade Towers will be built as well. We spent a lot of time at the memorial amongst others reading about the events and all that happened on that day praying for those that are still mourning the loss of their loved one.
